Sharing Design Philosophy
Why
The design side of the house has built a substantial body of work: a design methodology rooted in academic research, a modular component system, market analysis tooling, and AI-agent collaboration infrastructure. The team — cofounders and colleagues spanning engineering and sales — hasn't had a structured look at this thinking. Engineers need the methodology and tools to build independently. Sales needs the problem-framing lens to interpret value signals and articulate why Qpoint exists. Investors and portfolio companies are a secondary audience for the AI collaboration angle.
Objective
Create an async video — "here's what I'm doing over on the design side of the house" — that shares the design philosophy, shows the tools, and hands off the right pieces to the right people.
Goal
Help the team understand:
- How to operate the startup as a problem-defining tool (not just problem-solving)
- The tools we've built to accomplish this (market analysis, modular design system, rapid iteration infrastructure)
- How to start using those tools (sales → market analyst, eng → nuxt layer + design methodology)
Format
Async recorded video. Peer-to-peer tone, not a formal presentation. Rough sketches and live demos over polished slides. Consumed independently, discussed after.
Audience
- Cofounders & engineers — deeply technical, emerging Claude Code experts, smart and open to new ideas
- Sales — first time in early stage startup, could use help understanding the nature of the problems we're solving and interpreting value signals
- Secondary: select investors, sister portfolio companies (the AI collaboration narrative)
Key Decisions
- Async video, not live presentation. Consumed independently, discussed after. This means the narrative has to carry itself — no reading the room, no improvising. But it can be edited, re-recorded, and it becomes a permanent institutional artifact.
- No blog post this cycle. Keep the scope to the internal video.
- Peer tone: "here's what I'm doing over on the design side of the house." An invitation, not a formal presentation. Rough sketches and live demos over polished slides.
- Three-audience design. One video serves three needs: sales gets the problem-framing lens, engineers get the methodology and tools, investors/portfolio get the AI collaboration story. Each audience has a post-video handoff to their specific tools.
Learnings (Planning Phase)
- Sharing philosophy is not sharing control. The hesitation about oversight slowing innovation is real but addressable. The frame matters: "this is how we think" invites alignment; "this is the process" invites bureaucracy. Philosophy over process.
- Problem-defining > problem-solving as the startup frame. The goal reframed during Q&A — not just "understand the design system" but "understand how to operate the startup as a problem-defining tool." This is the deeper message. The design system is one expression of it; the market analysis tool is another.
- Async video is a crafted artifact. Unlike a live talk, every minute has to earn its place. Viewers will pause, rewind, skip — the structure should reward that. It also lives forever, so it becomes institutional knowledge (onboarding, investor sharing, portfolio sharing).
- Start concrete or start abstract is the key structural question. The three-act outline (philosophy → tools → AI) works logically, but starting with something concrete and revealing the thinking underneath may be more engaging for a recorded format. Still exploring.
- The handoff is as important as the content. The video's value is measured by whether people actually pick up the tools afterward. Sales → market analyst. Engineers → nuxt layer + design methodology. The video succeeds if it creates pull toward those tools.
