Inventory — Overview Ideas

Source: qdash /inventory — c59 iterations 3 (overview band) and 5 (the primary slot)

Three follow-up directions for the ledger's overview band, each fully rendered against the same Meridian numbers (34 of 39 monitored · 87% · 14 machines · 6 models · 9 MCP servers · 12 repos · 41 tools). React to pixels, not sketches.

Idea 1

Trend-aware overview

The band carries qdash's goal → gap → trend spine: every number answers "compared to what?" — coverage shows its 2-point slip on the day chen's Windsurf appeared.

Idea 2

The bar is the fleet map

The segment bar stops being a chart and becomes the fleet itself: 14 machine groups, width proportional to installs, amber = shadow. Click a machine and its detail renders in place — this could replace the machines table.

Idea 3

Hybrid

"How much" (tiles) and "how it's distributed" (bar) compose: v3's weighted tile row keeps its scan-ability, and only the Coverage tile becomes proportional.

Round 2 — the primary slot

Iteration 4 landed the hybrid band in ledger-v2, but its primary tiles answer coverage and risk — fleet-lens questions #2 and #4. "Is anything alive right now?" (#1) is answered nowhere, and "34 of 39 installs" next to "34 monitored agents" leaves the page's noun ambiguous. These ideas re-cast the primary slot around presence; the footprint strip — the part that works — is untouched. Ideas 4–6 render just the primary band; Idea 7 assembles the full overview.

Idea 4

Presence hero

Coverage's slot goes to the agents themselves: one count, one state-segmented bar in the same visual language — green active, grey idle, hollow stopped, red errored (hover a segment for who). This is the number that moves hour to hour. Coverage demotes to the secondary slot — assembled in Idea 7.

Idea 5

Presence funnel

Existence → liveness as one chain: 39 things exist, 34 are monitored, 31 ran this week, 20 are alive right now. Every noun gets its own line, so the installs-vs-agents ambiguity dissolves — and the dormancy step deliberately breaks the 34-installs = 34-agents coincidence that real data would never show.

Idea 6

Shadow-first exception

Coverage stays primary but inverts into its actionable form: a percentage is a report, five named exceptions are a worklist. The onboard affordance leads; the % becomes the sub-line. Weakness: still doesn't answer "alive right now," and the chip worklist edges toward the onboard flow's territory.

Idea 7

Recommended composition

The pieces assembled: presence hero on the left with the funnel as its sub-line, coverage (relabeled "Visibility" — the do-we-have-eyes-on-it word) and at-risk demoted beside it, footprint strip verbatim, the existence→liveness chain as a caption beneath the box. All four fleet-lens questions in reading order: alive → monitored → at risk → surface.

Idea 7b

Uniform tiles

Same composition as Idea 7, but the hero no longer outweighs the secondaries: all three tiles share one scale and the same sub-item rhythm — number, bar, caption — so the row reads as one system and everything lines up without forcing alignment.
